Matthew (Matt) Williams, M.S. – Author Biography
Matt Williams is a turfgrass and soil science specialist with more than two decades of experience in lawn care, DIY gardening, turf management, and soil fertility. As Chief Scientific Officer at Predictive Nutrient Solutions, he leads product research and development focused on data‑driven nutrient management, soil testing, and practical solutions for lawns, gardens, and managed landscapes.Before stepping into his current role, Matt spent several years directing research and development, where he designed trial protocols, ran greenhouse and field studies, and translated lab and trial results into real‑world fertilizer and soil amendment programs for lawns and gardens. His work often links soil test data, nutrient formulations, and turf performance so that homeowners and professionals can move from guesswork to predictable, measurable outcomes.
Matt has a long track record in education as a Tenured Instructor of Plant and Soil Science, teaching courses in basic soil science, soil fertility and management, soil ecology and biogeochemistry, cultivated plants, and weed identification. He has also chaired agriculture and turfgrass advisory committees, helping shape curricula in turf management, plant and soil science, and agricultural systems to match the needs of modern lawn, landscape, and agricultural industries. In addition, he serves as an elected Board Supervisor for the Walla Walla County Conservation District, contributing to local conservation planning and natural resource management efforts.
Earlier in his career, Matt served as an instructor and associate in research at Washington State University, contributing to turfgrass research and education, and started hands‑on in the industry as a turfgrass intern and groundskeeper at multiple golf courses. That progression—from golf course turf to university turfgrass research, to college instruction, to industry R&D and leadership—gives him a uniquely practical and science‑based view of lawn care, turf management, gardening, and soil health. Matt holds an Associate's degree in Turf Management from Walla Walla Community College, a Bachelor of Science degree in Crop Science – Turf Management, and a Master of Science in Crop Science from the Department of Crop & Soil Sciences at Washington State University.
